In the video above I go through our film and talk about the feedback I received at various points of the film and what I thought about it.
For a media product like mine, it is essential to gain audience feedback to help make improvements for the next project, but also to remain coy about things that were done well and can also be done next time. Based on the responses I had gotten from the audience, I asked everyone to rate the film out of 10, of course with the audience being a class of media students, their general knowledge of short films would be above the average consumer so would have reasons for voting a certain score that a normal member of the public for example wouldn't, when asking for their rating, I also asked for a reason why and a lot of them used media terminology when listing their reasons , things such as use of lighting, camera techniques and other things a general consumer wouldn't pick up on so this feedback was especially helpful.
Below are some points that people gave along with their rating as well as their general feedback.
The bee sequence was a bit slow but overall enjoyed the film. (8/10)
The film definitely fits the genre of a ROMCOM and story was told well in most areas. (7/10)
There were a few continuity errors however they may have been unfixable but overall I think the narrative was well told through the film. (9/10)
Liked how creative the shots were and felt that they added to the story. (7/10)
The story was written well and the film was edited quite well all round .(8/10)
Liked the film but some parts of it weren’t clear .(7/10)
Good idea and was executed well in the film, the characters general personas were clear, eg. Clumsy friend, dream girl. (7/10)
Very good concept of a film, executed well with various amount of interesting and unique camera shots, but had segments in which did not make too much sense but the overall quality of the film was good, one of the segments I found that did not make sense was the point of his friend getting hit by stuff. (8/10)
The soundtrack matched the theme of the film well as it helped to escalate the comedic attributes of the individual characters. The soundtrack also helped to set the scene for some areas, for example when the dream girl entered the classroom, the soundtrack used helped to portray her as someone who was heavily admired by the boy sitting down. (8/10)
The use of tracking shots helped in some cases to make certain scenes feel more dynamic, for example when the teacher spills his water the track following him along the desk out of the classroom makes you feel as if you’re actually there watching it as the camera is almost like a point of view shot. (9/10)
If I could change anything it would probably be that the boy is successful at trying to get the girls attention first as for some people they may find that aspect of the story quite confusing. I think that if this was added then the story might have made a lot more sense and probably would have improved the film quite a lot. (8/10)
